Dear All,

Not sure how it happened, but time seems to have overtaken the planning of the cap alumni’s SWF events

As such, we were wondering if we would invite the Fruit and Veg band to come perform for a short segment at The Arts House during the below exhibition. We hope the members can clear one hour of their time to aid the alumni. Jian Yong, apologies for the late request, but can you help us contact members and check if you are able to make it?

Ashish, since you said you were interested, wondering if you could come down and help with the exhibition? Sale of books can be done, along with anything you feel able to help with. Particularly helpful could be your wonderful short poetry teaching sessions like those you did at open house. Just ask for materials and they will be found. Thanks

ALso, if you guys can think of anything that can be pulled in to help with logistics/content for one or both, do feel free to suggest asap. (ESP if you are able to contribute in any way, do speak up!)

This is also an open appeal for poetry/ prose/ short scripts/extracts of plays from ALL. No work required. Just mail your work over with name, age, school and email, and it may be selected to be exhibited at the arts house during the event.

ALso we need GUIDES, senior cappers for WRITING GUIDANCE PEOPLE and logistics people for the public writing journey. All help VERY WELCOME.

Please mail in with name, cap year, sch etc, HANDPHONE NUMBER if you are willing to help on the below two days. ASAP

Much appreciated, apologies for the abruptness and late message.

Thank you,
Geoffrey

DATES:

Guided Writing Journey

Sat 1 Dec | 3pm – 5pm | Meeting Point: The Arts House

The guided writing journey is an odyssey for aspiring writers to receive stimuli from Singapore’s nooks and crannies. Their pilgrimage will be inspired by their new perspective, as Robert Frost said: the road less travelled would make all the difference.

Latent: Developing Singapore’s Only Natural Resource

Sat 8 Dec | 5pm – 6pm | Living Room

Despite being a meritocratic nation excelling at academia, Singapore has not developed its only natural resource – her citizens – in their latent talent of the arts. Through performances, Singaporeans’ understated aptitude for the arts, literary and musical, will be demonstrated.

Updates

Hello! Here’s the update on what has been happening with the CAP Alumni thus far.

 1) The book publication/project, entitled “Between”. Do check out the cool website created by Del and the book committee,  at http://singlemalt.pitas.com/. Information about “Between”, submission details, a very cool video, an informative Q&A, short biographies about Del and the book committee, a tagboard (for spamming purposes), and information about CAP and the CAP Alumni can be found there.

As mentioned earlier, the book committee headed by Del is looking for original prose and poetry from CAPpers of almost all ages (meaning below 30 years of age as of 2008; which most of you are).  Please send all work to we.are.not.respectable@gmail.com by 5 pm, 31th of October (in which it is already a very kindly extended deadline). Illustrations should be in JPEG or GIF formats. Upon finalisation of the content of the book, the editors may require higher resolution images. English entries only! Queries can be sent to the same email, or evenstar6q@gmail.com. Please remember to include your basic details like name, age (and school if appropriate), contact details and CAP year. (Most of the above is taken from http://singlemalt.pitas.com/; thanks!) CAPpers are highly encouraged to submit their original prose and poetry.

 2) Tea sessions are going to be held soon, in which these are (quite literally) tea sessions held with acclaimed writers. Tea sessions are quite exclusive, as only a small group of CAPpers will get to attend the tea sessions with a specified writer (around 10 CAPpers in 1 tea session). A confirmed tea session will be one held with Cyril Wong; although dates, timings, and tea sessions with other writers and details regarding the tea session with Cyril Wong have not been confirmed yet. The tea session with Cyril Wong will mostly likely take place at late October/early November, so keep on checking your emails for further updates and quick replies (as placings are mostly likely going to be given at a first come first serve basis).

 3) The Singapore Writers’ Festival will take place on early December, although most details are still being sketched out, the CAP Alumni is going to have involvement in the Singapore Writers’ Festival, in which a writing journey will most likely be taking place. Keep your eyes peeled for updates!

4) The Literature Seminar is coming up at the end of the month. The emails sent by Del earlier (which can be viewed at the CAP Alumni Yahoo!Group) sums it up -

[The APT (short for Alumni Project Team) is looking for volunteers for the GEP Lit Sem coming up soon!

The GEP Lit Sem is an annual event where participants from over 20 schools gather to discuss literary works. This year, the Seminar would like to include something different, and interesting - the perspective of CAPpers who have grown and developed through the programme!

Details of the GEP Lit Sem are as follows:

Date:             27 October 2007 (Saturday)

Venue:          Raffles Girls School (Secondary)

Time:             8.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m

Attached to this email is a short description of the likely programmes to be expected in the Seminar, including a list of topics that you may be interested in exploring as a presentation, found in GEP Literature Seminar 2007 Programme (The attachments are as follows: the "Request for Support at Literature Seminar 2007" document; request-for-support-at-literature-seminar-2007.doc, and the GEP Literature Seminar 2007 Programme, gep-literature-seminar-2007_programme.doc).

The APT requires (at least) 10 fresh-faced students to participate in the presentations, as well as to help guide and coordinate movements for facilitators! Please refer to Request for Support at Literature Seminar 2007 for more details.

Volunteers are required for helping to coordinate logistics and movement for facilitators and students - very basic councilloring, in other words.

If you like presentations, powerpoints, and meeting new and old faces, give your name to Wynne at desian_hawk@hotmail.com or Del at adelzmaster@yahoo.com. What else are you waiting for? Sign up now!

Love,
Del

P.S. (Please note that presentations and topics chosen may still need to undergo approval / editting for the actual presentation at the GEP Sem.)]

CAPpers are highly encouraged to volunteer for the GEP Literature Seminar; I believe you guys will also have the time to do so as your examinations (for the folks who are not taking the O Levels) would have ended by then.

More updates arriving soon. Thanks for reading! :D

Logo Design E-Voting

Hey All!

As known, the CAP Alumni has hosted a Logo design competition recently, and since the deadline is way past and entries submitted, the E-Voting for the best design thus has to commerce! We have a total number of 11 excellent Logo designs, in which you’ll have to pick the one you think best represents the CAP Alumni! Other than the design for the Logo itself, please take into consideration the design proposal (as shown on the right of the Logo designs) as it shows what the logo is supposed to represent (the CAP Alumni!), and gives the logo design its depth other than its visual appeal alone. Therefore, we’re leaving it up to you to choose the logo design for the CAP Alumni; please choose the logo that represents the CAP Alumni best.

On a side note, if you wish to use the any of the logo designs, please ask for permission to do by either contacting the logo designers directly or, if you don’t have the logo designers’ contact details, contact us (the CAP Alumni, heh) and we’ll, in turn, get in touch with the logo designers. Tedious process, yes, but the logo designers do deserve the right to exert control over and be credited for their logo designs due to the logo designs’ excellence, don’t you think? :D

Please view the logo designs (in full size! So that the logo designs can be viewed clearly and the design proposals properly read) at this link (since WordPress.com refuses to allow me to upload all of the logo designs): http://s233.photobucket.com/albums/ee93/capalumnicom/ Do take note of the logo design numbers, you don’t want to vote for the wrong logo!

Please head to this link (a Yahoo!Groups poll) to vote for your favorite logo design! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CAP-ital/surveys?id=12639446 But Geoffrey’s logo designs (designs 10 and 11) are not included in the poll yet,  just drop a message off at the CAP Alumni Yahoo!Group or place a comment at our WordPress.com page if you want to vote for his designs.

Voting will end on 15th September (11.59pm, per se); vote soon!

 Thanks a lot! :D

Details: Thur, 6 Sept, NLB Central, 7-8.30pm

More information (or correct info) will be posted later. Besides, why pass up an excuse to hang out with CAPpers in the evening? :D

 toodles.

UPDATES! 25/8/07

The CAP Alumnicom had a meeting today, and had many details of the AGM confirmed. I think Luke will be sending out mails to this effect.

The CAP Annual General Meeting 2007 will be held at the MOE GEP Branch at Grange Road, from 1pm-5pm. (BYO lunch starts at 1pm) Guest speakers include Ms Lim Siew Yea, Mr. Yong Shu Hoong and Mr. Kai Chai.

As I said, more details will be send out by Luke. Please do tell CAPpers of all years from your school to come, even those not in the Alumni yet (signups can be done on the spot as well).

Lastly, we already have over 10 entries for the Logo Competition, but only from a few people. PLEASE DO SUBMIT YOUR ENTRIES! The deadline has been extended to this thursday, 20 August.

Hello everyone!

The book committee headed by Del is looking for original prose and poetry from cappers of all ages. Please do submit your works to her at adelzmaster@yahoo.com. Please remember to include your basic details like name, age (and sch if app), contact number and cap year.

Also, in accordance with plans to stage a doublebill next year, the alumnicom is also looking for good, original scripts from our budding playwrights out there. Same applies with regards to the details. If all else fails, you can also recommend a good unoriginal script and give a short writeup about why you think it ought to be put up.

 Thanks a lot! :)

Film Screening

Hello! Here’s an email sent by Glendon (CAP Council 2007) regarding a film screening! Please take a look through it, its quite interesting!

“Hey everyone!

There’ll be a film screening coming up soon at Hwachong Institution (High School) featuring an exclusive collection of films by Khavn De La Cruz, a reknowned filmmaker/writer/musician.

[Featuring a myraid of films by Khavn De La Cruz,‘Spotlight!’ is a collaborative effort by Hwa Chong Institution (High School) and Asian Film Archive. It offers an exotic perspective on the Philippine lifestyle and culture, trailing the joys and sorrows of a motley bunch of individuals from all walks of life. Provocative, humorous, quirky, garish, seductive, recondite yet artistically refined, this captivating collection provides a pseudo-philosophical take on mankind’s multiplex idiosyncrasies. Plunging into the intimacy of its indigenous communal enclaves, the films delve into the varied foibles that both define their colourful culture and endear it to a foreign audience. Forget about mushy romance flicks or cheesy drama serials. This is the real deal.]

Interested? Bring your family and friends along. These shows are meant for absolutely anyone under the sun. Here are the screening details:

SCREENING 1: 22nd August 2007
Venue: Hwa Chong Institution (High School) Drama Centre
Time: 2pm-4pm

Films Screened: Squatterpunk, Cans & Slippers, Amen, Our Daily Bread

SCREENING 2: 23rd August 2007
Venue: Hwa Chong Institution (High School) Drama Centre
Time: 2pm-4pm

Films Screened: Squatterpunk, Cans & Slippers, Old EastSide, Small Ali

What’s more tickets are priced at the low, low price of 1 DOLLAR!!! No more $8 movie tickets;) All proceeds would be going to the independent filmmakers for their screening fees. Plz refer all ticket orders and enquiries to spotlightfilmshowcase@gmail.com. Tickets can be collected at the door:)

Come down and support us!

Regards,                                                                                                                                                                                             Glendon Kok]

If possible, do go for the film screening! Who knows, you may see some of your CAP buddies :D Hope to see you there!

Hullo everybody! It’s you friendly web team here on national day eve with a special announcement! Today, I made and ate *ahem* white chocolate chip… cookies for breakfast! <3 *gasps*

As you digest that wonderful bit of information, stand up (for singapore!) and feel free to find out that our favourite, fantastic family-fun friend Lionel has put together a wonderful forum for all you cappers out there! It has all those spiffy features that you get to see in official forums; and now we have one too! You can sure count on me (singapore!) to be visiting it often, after all, we are (singapore!) all cheerfully carefree cappers, hmm?

Even so, please do remember that we’re all One people, one nation, one (singapore!) year below the legal age of 16, so please keep the… content posted telly-tubby saccharine sweet, okay? :) However, you musn’t get the impression that this tagboard will be strict and official-purpose-y! This will be something akin to home, where we can all be together, talking a load of bull with fellow cappers in and out of our year! Even if you or I am overseas, the radiance of friendships gained in camp will definitely shine on me, because home is where the heart is, and it’s definitely where I belong! So please do spam the forum and use it as a wonderful place to keep in touch with everyone!

Okay, since we’re all new at this, there might be some bugs and stuff, but with your feedback (and constant usage) we will get there! So, all in all, just be sure to make this your homepage and visit the affiliated cap forums at

http://capalumni.a-cro.net/cap_forum/index.php

or click the link on the sidebar. Alternatively, reach out for the skies and shout to the gods in vain, sacrificing your life status and falling in complete peripetia… the cosmic irony of it all… I wonder if the gods can even see my island home Either way, there’s no place I’d rather be, except, perhaps, when I will be lounging in the shady contours of the CAP Forum chatting with all those pretty girls, eh ;)will you?

[If you haven't noticed... you're not a capper -.- Anyways, the NDP song titles courtesy of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Day_Parade]

CAP AGM

CAP Alumni will be having our AGM on Saturday, September 1st, from 3.30 – 5pm, though you’re highly encouraged to come at 3pm for the exciting pre-event activities. Important announcements will be made during the meeting, and all attendees will receive a copy of our book-let, the fruit of our earlier writing journey. Other attractions of the meeting include free refreshments, the appearance of established writers in the likes of Yong Shu Hoong and Prof. Edwin Thumboo (yet to be confirmed). The winner of the logo-design competition will also be announced and he/she will receive a prize. We will also screen the video that councillor Jassmine made during CAP 07.

The venue is yet to be confirmed; more details will be given soon, and please RSVP soon :)
